Most Germans haven't tried AI chatbots yet – how can they be made more appealing?

ChatGPT and co. are a hot topic. But by no means everyone has tried AI yet. Why not? Personalization, puzzles and quizzes are examples of ways to make AI more appealing to the majority of Germans. The chatbot could, for example, use the customer's name or refer to previous conversations. Offering specific content and services that add value, such as product advice or individual recommendations, can also increase its appeal. It's also important that AI chatbots are user-friendly and intuitive to use. Regular updates and further development can keep the appeal going.

  • how AI chatbots can be made more appealing,
  • what opportunities there are for your company

‍

Most Germans haven't tried AI chatbots yet – why not?

The ability of machines to perform cognitive functions that humans normally perform – that describes AI pretty well. How does it work? The technology lets systems analyze data, recognize patterns, make decisions and solve problems.

AI makes it possible to process large amounts of data more efficiently. That leads to better-informed decisions and more accurate forecasts. It can, for example, help gain competitive advantages or spot trends. AI chatbots are already being used successfully in purchasing, finance/accounting, customer service, HR, IT and sales.

According to a survey, however, only three in four Germans currently know the term AI. Around 40 percent are experimenting with popular applications such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. Only 8 percent use a chatbot in everyday life.

The younger generation, however, sees huge potential in AI services. Whether it's homework, presentations or exam prep, AI has their back. Chatbots can also be used for medical diagnoses or translations. But respondents see the greatest benefit in automating bureaucratic processes.

So in Germany, AI chatbots are still a comparatively unexplored and untapped technology. Although chatbots are based on artificial intelligence and have the potential to revolutionize customer service, most Germans have little experience with them so far.

‍

How can chatbots become even more appealing?

One example of successful chatbot use is e-commerce companies that use them to answer questions about products or orders. In healthcare, too, AI chatbots could help patients schedule appointments. However, there are also concerns about data protection and privacy, which can make people hesitant to try such technologies. To unlock the full potential of AI chatbots and increase public acceptance, companies need to keep developing the technology while addressing security concerns.

So chatbots can be made more appealing by giving them human-like qualities and a personal touch. Instead of just delivering information, chatbots can give humorous or emotional answers, for example, to build a stronger connection with the user. Using artificial intelligence, chatbots can also learn to better understand users' preferences and needs and make personalized recommendations. Another approach is to integrate gamification elements, such as reward systems or leaderboards, to make interacting with the chatbot more playful and entertaining. Regular updates and new features can keep using the chatbot exciting.

‍

AI requires expert knowledge

To make chatbots more appealing and ensure effective communication with users, it's also crucial that AI chatbots have expert knowledge. Using artificial intelligence, chatbots can then solve complex problems and give personalized answers to specific questions. But to make sure AI chatbots provide correct and relevant information, it's important to involve experts from various fields in developing and training them. Only then can they reach their full potential and offer real added value for your customers.

‍

Is Germany lagging behind?

The distribution of large AI models shows that the US, with 73 percent, and China, with 15 percent, play a dominant role. But Germany and Europe also have considerable AI expertise. Companies such as Bosch, Siemens and SAP have already established themselves as pioneers. The current challenge, however, is the availability of enough computing power to drive the development and implementation of AI projects efficiently. Still, there are promising initiatives such as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) that can help further strengthen Germany's position in this field.

That's why the LEAM initiative (Large European AI Models) is calling for an AI supercomputing infrastructure in Germany. With €400 million, a data center could be built that not only supports large companies in developing and training AI models, but also provides computing time to smaller companies.

Companies and research institutions have already achieved groundbreaking results with large AI models. For example, they've made it possible to automatically create almost photorealistic images, write texts or generate program code from natural language. The models were trained and optimized for weeks on the world's largest supercomputers.

Opportunities for your company with AI chatbots

Opportunities from using AI bots in your company

Integrating AI bots into companies still offers a wide range of opportunities. With AI-based chatbots, companies can make their customer service more efficient, as they're available around the clock and can respond quickly to requests. AI bots can also help automate workflows by taking over repetitive tasks and freeing up employees' time. Examples include automatic appointment scheduling, order tracking and product advice. AI bots also enable personalized customer interactions by using machine learning to analyze customers' behavior and preferences and respond accordingly. All this leads to higher customer satisfaction, greater efficiency and ultimately a competitive advantage for the company.

Why companies should act now

Are you already thinking about a chatbot for your company? After all, AI goes far beyond writing text. From smart homes to the automotive, textile and steel industries, and areas such as agriculture, medicine and the military – they're all already benefiting from AI. The head of PwC Strategy& Europe is also convinced: those who push ahead now and use AI will stand out from the competition and can keep increasing their value creation.

AI as a strategic competitive advantage

Artificial intelligence (AI) lets companies stand out in a competitive environment and keep increasing their value creation. One example is using AI algorithms to analyze large amounts of data to identify patterns and trends and make well-founded strategic decisions. AI can also be used to automate work processes, which increases efficiency and reduces costs. Customer-facing applications such as personalized recommendation systems or chatbots are further examples of how companies can improve their customer service with AI. Overall, AI opens up many opportunities for companies to develop their business models and achieve long-term success.

‍

Conclusion: early adopters benefit from AI's many advantages

Those who jump on the artificial intelligence (AI) train early can benefit from its many advantages. AI technologies, for example, enable personalized recommendations in online stores and streaming services by analyzing user behavior. They improve customer care with chatbots that can answer questions around the clock. In medicine, AI supports doctors with diagnoses and treatment decisions. AI is also used in industry, for example to optimize production processes or deploy autonomous robots. As it develops further, new possibilities will keep emerging, and early adopters stand to benefit the most.

Competition in Germany is still limited – so if your company can delight customers with AI chatbots early on, you'll stay ahead in the long run.
